Master of Divinity
Students interested in preparing for
effective ministerial and public leadership often select the specialized
study found in the Master of Divinity program. The Master of Divinity
is founded on the educational disciplines of professional ministry as
well as the scholarly fields of biblical studies and theology. The
curriculum for this program attends to various sub-categories within
theological disciplines – biblical, historical, systematic, and
practical theology. Students are required to complete 90 graduate
credits.
EDUCATIONAL GOALS
The Master of Divinity degree is designed to
prepare students for effective ministry to people through confident,
accurate, and practical handling of the Scriptures in various settings.
The M.Div. focuses on:
Theological
Understanding:
- Perform biblical exegesis and
exposition starting with text in the original languages
- Articulate and scripturally defend
biblical orthodoxy
Spiritual
Formation:
- Uphold godly living through personal
practice, and by encouraging others to the same goal
Professional
Competency:
- Apply Scripture to the issues of
life practically, soundly, and with compassion
- Communicate biblical truth
effectively
- Continue to be a student of
Scripture through consistent study
Critical
Thinking:
- Evaluate issues critically and
theologically.
- Distinguish biblically consistent
doctrine and practice from those that deviate.
Cultural
Sensitivity:
- Engage in the Christian ministry and
fellowship with appreciation for the variety of individuals, forms,
and circumstances through which God works.
